With the opening of international borders and the use of the Internet to sell goods, Grey Market equipment has become extremely common in the photographic and consumer electronics markets.
Many different types of equipment are brought into our country for sale without the proper documentation and many consumers do not always know what they are purchasing.
Nikon therefore hopes to create greater awareness of the Grey Market and give you the right information on where you should be buying Nikon products from, in order to prevent our customers from getting the low-end of the deal, since grey products are not eligible for local warranty.
In this article, we will advise all customers how to be careful when buying your gear. Regardless of saving cost or whether you should wait for the authorised stocks to arrive in our market, if you are buying from a non-authorised dealer or even another country, it is good to understand how that decision may affect future repairs and warranties.
The Grey Market refers to merchandise that are not designed to be sold in a particular market.
These items are usually imported and sold by non-authorised dealers, whether it is local or online. Such items may not come with a local warranty card, or may not even come with a warranty card at all.
Customers should always insist on your local warranty card, and not accept any irregular instructions, such as to register online without the actual warranty card, which is not possible.
If the warranty card is missing in the package, please refer back to the dealer where the purchase was made.
Grey Market items may also not meet mandatory safety and certification codes because they are not designed for that particular market. Hence because of this, Nikon Singapore cannot rightfully provide technical service, support or downloads for products that have not been imported by Nikon Singapore for the Singapore market.

If the deal is just too good to be true, it probably is. Because the resellers' cost is less they can also sell Grey Market items for less. Unfortunately this price savings is only on the initial purchase; because service and support is more difficult to obtain it may end up costing you more in the long run.
A genuine Nikon product will also include an original Owners' Manual and Warranty Registration card in English. It will also include power cables (if applicable).
Any other language (example Japanese language) on the printed material, manually created manuals or CD software, or wrong cables indicates a Grey Market item.

Kindly note that in order for the local warranty coverage to be valid, the purchase receipt has to also indicate that the purchase had been made from the same country where the local authorised dealer is located.
For example, if the “Dealer’s Name” in the warranty card indicates an authorised dealer in Singapore, the information in the purchase receipt has to also show that the purchase had been made in Singapore.
Yes. Any local warranty coverage is not valid if the product is a Grey Market item or does not have a local warranty card.
Rightfully, Nikon Singapore cannot provide technical service, support or downloads for products that have not been imported by Nikon Singapore for the Singapore market.
If you own a Grey Market product it will need to be returned to the reseller or importer for service.
