Make ordinary scenes extraordinary. Experience the superior NIKKOR Z optical performance and rendering with the NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S, a standard zoom lens with a constant aperture in a portable size and weight. Capture a variety of scenes across its zoom range from wide-angle to telephoto, all with one versatile lens.
1. Superior optical performance of the S-Line lens series
The well-designed optical system of the NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S achieves high-resolution images for any shooting scenes throughout the frame. The employment of one aspherical ED glass and three ED glass elements effectively suppresses axial chromatic aberration from close to infinity distances, delivering sharp rendering and minimizing color bleeding at the front and rear of the focal plane.
The NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S maintains the maximum aperture of f/4 all the way through zooming in and out. This enables free zooming, facilitating photo expression according to photographers’ intentions for both stills and movies. The f/4 maximum aperture across the telephoto range provides them with impressive expression utilizing large bokeh effects to make the subject naturally stand out during portrait shooting, for example. The constant maximum aperture also allows them to concentrate on shooting even in dark situations without worrying about the aperture change.
Ghost and flare are suppressed even in backlit situations with the adoption of Nano Crystal Coat that is highly effective for diagonal incident light and ARNEO Coat that efficiently works for vertical incident light. In this way, ghost and flare effects caused by incident light from any direction are successfully minimized. This enables the capture of clear and crisp images even when a light source is located within the frame.
The NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S realizes close-up shooting for subjects such as flowers and insects with its maximum reproduction ratio of 0.39× (at minimum focus distance of 0.35 m). Also, the adoption of a multi-focusing system contributes to delivering outstanding optical performance even with subjects captured at short distances. As a result, impressive close-up photography can be easily enjoyed.
2. Diverse applications with 5x standard zoom in a lightweight body
The NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S covers frequently used angles of view ranging from 24 to 120 mm. Using just this easy-to-carry lens enables the user to capture a wide range of subjects and scenes such as leisure, travel, street snaps, weddings, news, and sports applications.
While covering a 120-mm focal length, longer than that of competitors’ products, the NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S achieves the lightest weight* of approx. 630 g, maximizing the advantages of the Z-mount system. The adoption of an aluminum alloy mount is also a factor in attaining weight reduction while maintaining durability. Employing just this lens as a main lens, the user can be active and agile while shooting diverse scenes.
*Among interchangeable zoom lenses for mirrorless digital cameras with interchangeable lenses equipped with a 35mm film size image sensor, with a focal-length range from 24 mm at the wide-angle end to 105-120 mm at the telephoto end, and a maximum aperture of f/4 or less, available as of October 28, 2021. Statement based on Nikon research.
3. Superior focusing performance
Employing quiet and highly responsive stepping motors (STM) in the AF drive system enables outstandingly quiet, fast and accurate operation. With this superb AF performance, users can reliably capture the decisive moments without missing shutter opportunities. The NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S adopts a multi-focusing system that controls the position of multiple focusing lens groups precisely by utilizing multiple AF drive units. This system also contributes to providing incredibly sharp and high-resolution images with no color bleeding across the entire shooting range including close distances, by effectively compensating aberrations.
4. High operability and customizability
The NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S achieves superior dust- and drip-resistant* performance with a sealing for various sections including movable parts to prevent dust and water droplets from entering the lens barrel, as well as the adoption of a rubber lens-mount gasket. What’s more, Nikon’s advanced fluorine coat is applied to the surface of the frontmost lens element, repelling smudges and allowing easy cleaning. This lens enables users to continue shooting even in harsh conditions with the greatest of confidence.
*Thorough dust- and drip-resistance is not guaranteed in all situations or under all conditions.
The smooth operational feel of each ring, independent focus ring, and function assignment to the control ring and L-Fn button enhance users’ shooting experience with incomparable comfortability.
5. Other features
Drive sounds caused by AF and aperture control are minimized. Operational sound is also reduced with a control ring that allows click-less operation, letting users record in quiet situations without worrying about any annoying sounds being recorded.
Smooth operation of the control ring enables natural movie expression by realizing gradual and smooth change of focus and brightness. Functions that can be assigned by the camera to the control ring include focus (M/A), ISO sensitivity, aperture and exposure compensation, thus providing more intuitive operation.
This function effectively reduces shifting of the angle of view that is likely to occur when adjusting focus, allowing users to freely change focus position after setting a composition.
Permits smooth and stable aperture control that delivers natural exposure changes when recording.
The NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S boasts an elegant exterior design plus smooth operability. The entire body features a metallic look with a silky satin texture. A new S-Line emblem and NIKKOR logo alongside the lens name also enhance the high-quality styling. As well as this, the control ring, zoom ring, and newly independent focus ring are particularly smooth to control, further improving operability.
