1. The pleasure of shooting, in iconic style
Photography is not simply about the outcome but also every step in between. The Nikon FM2, one of Nikon’s many iconic cameras, has brought that true joy of photography and was widely cherished by its numerous users. Wishing to follow in those footsteps, the Z fc employs an exterior design with details carefully crafted to evoke that iconic camera. The body size resembles the FM2 and so does the balance between the pentaprism and body, as well as between the black and silver elements. Leather-like grain is adopted even on the back of the monitor, resembling a film camera. Each dial is of carefully carved aluminum with all of its top display engraved. The inscribed Nikon logo that was formerly used on cameras released from the 1970s to 1980s and a circular eyepiece add the finishing touches — all of which can only be achieved through the craftsmanship inherited by Nikon.
The name Nikon Z fc represents one of the roles of this camera, which is to communicate and connect the history of the brand with its more than 70 years of dedicated camera manufacturing, from the past, to the present, to the future. The letter “f” indicates a fusion between tactile precision mechanics and high image quality, both thoroughly developed through decades of designing and manufacturing image-making tools. The “f” also signifies models with symbolic importance in Nikon’s history. The letter “c”, meanwhile, conveys Nikon’s wish for this camera, inheriting tradition, to be used by anyone, anywhere, more “casually”.
Beyond the camera body, you can also find a complementary design style in the two kit lenses, the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR and NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 (SE). For the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR, the new silver coating that is also used on the Z fc camera body has been adopted, ensuring it harmonizes not only with the black camera body but also any of the six Premium Exterior leather-toned material options for the body color. The NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 (SE) is a special edition with a different lens design to the usual NIKKOR Z models. It is inspired by the design of the NIKKOR lenses that were released at the time of the FM2. The NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 (SE)’s knurling design is an authentic reproduction based on examination of the original NIKKOR blueprints. The bottom body design prevents slipping and the lens also features an eye-catching control ring that inspires operation. While achieving high usability packed in an iconic design, this lens triggers your motivation for shooting.
You will enjoy not only shooting with the Z fc but also carrying it around. This camera comes with Premium Exterior options, for which you can change the leather-toned material on the body depending on your individual taste and lifestyle. You can select from six color options*: white, coral pink, mint green, sand beige, amber brown and natural gray. Customize the body color to best express yourself.
2. Enjoy each step with tactile operation
Put your heart into each picture and enjoy every process by rotating dials while feeling the flick of your finger against each. The Z fc features three dials on the top body — for shutter speed, ISO sensitivity and exposure compensation — as well as a small window displaying the aperture. Together, they let you visually confirm basic camera settings at a glance. The tactile operation of each dial will let you enjoy the process of manually taking time to adjust each setting before releasing the shutter.
Exposure compensation during Auto mode is now possible for the first time in the Z series camera lineup. The exposure compensation dial becomes effective even during Auto mode. This lets you achieve the look you want by rotating the exposure compensation dial afterwards while utilizing the camera’s recommended settings. This makes it easy to shoot your subject in silhouette, high key and low key.
Concentrate on the moment by looking through the Z fc’s easy-to-view electronic viewfinder (EVF). It offers a sharp and clear image under any conditions, thanks to its approx. 2360k-dot high-resolution organic EL panel combined with Nikon’s superior optical and image-processing technologies featuring approx. 100% coverage and 1.02x magnification*. This comfortable EVF displays the same settings as the camera monitor, allowing you to change them without taking your eye away. It reflects each setting in real time, which makes it possible to preview Creative Picture Controls, right before releasing the shutter.
*50mm lens at infinity, -1.0 m-1. Approx. 0.68x when converted to 35mm format.
Take a moment and appreciate the world around you from fresh perspectives. The Z fc employs a vari-angle monitor — the first in the Z series camera. Unlike the tilting monitor, you can flip the monitor sideways, allowing more versatile use such as attaching the camera to a selfie stick or vlogging. It automatically switches to self-portrait mode when the monitor is turned to the front, realizing a smooth shift to shooting high-quality selfies in both stills and videos. AF-F mode, which is dedicated to video recording, can also be utilized during self-portrait mode. Vertical shots from a low-angle position and high-angle shooting are also easy. This 7.5cm (3.0-in.), approx. 1040k-dot camera monitor employs a touchscreen monitor, offering comfortable operability with effortless handling.

New inspiration often strikes when you’re in the middle of shooting. By pressing the Z fc’s convenient i button, it displays 12 settings, letting you change them quickly without needing to go into the menu. The i menu lets you choose your 12 most frequently used settings and arrange them in the order of convenience. You can view the same i menu items on the camera monitor or the electronic viewfinder (EVF), enabling you to change settings and preview each adjustment in real time without taking your eye away. Together with the dials, you can easily change settings while concentrating on shooting and fully enjoy each step of your photography.
3. Take the camera anywhere in your own style
The Z fc’s design fits all kinds of styles and scenes while being compact and lightweight: You’ll want to take it out wherever you go. The basic Z fc kit, which weighs less than a 600-ml plastic bottle of water*, will never be a burden during your daily outings and will guide you to capture your special moments more freely. Its flat design without a grip makes it easier to slip the camera in and out of your bag, even with the kit lens attached, so you can take it out quickly whenever you run into a good subject. Whether in your bag or over your shoulder, the Z fc is a great companion for everyday use.
*The Z fc and NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR together weigh approx. 580g.
The Z fc is stylish, but strongly and durably built so that users can cherish it over many years. It is protected against shock by magnesium alloy, ensuring greater reliability for carrying it around. Moreover, it employs a tough yet lightweight material on its rear cover. It also employs a high-precision shutter with superior durability, that has been tested for 100,000 actuations while loaded in the camera.
4. Give shape, sharpness and emotion to your creativity
Experience image quality that couldn’t possibly be achieved with your smartphone. The Z fc lets you raise the sensitivity up to ISO 51200*1, delivering photos and videos with minimum noise, that feature clear details and textures. This is made possible by the advanced image sensor and noise reduction provided by the EXPEED 6 image-processing engine that is also used on Nikon’s upper-class models. The wide standard ISO range lets you utilize faster shutter speeds, realizing outstanding images with minimum blur, even in dark situations. With the ISO sensitivity dial*2, you can adjust the setting quickly, as well as confirm the changes being made in real time, letting you enjoy each step of making adjustments while shooting.
*1Expandable up to 204800. The maximum standard sensitivity for video recording is ISO 25600. *2ISO sensitivity settings cannot be changed in the menu, with touch operation.

Add different nuances to your images employing the 20 Creative Picture Controls, with which hue, tone and saturation are fine-tuned to create a variety of effects. By setting them before the shoot, you can minimize the image deterioration often caused by postproduction. You can confirm the appearance in real time, just before releasing the shutter, through the monitor or EVF, and the camera even lets you adjust the effect level of each Creative Picture Control — making it easier to achieve your desired look beyond the 20 color profiles. All of these options are now at your fingertips and can be applied to both photos and videos. In addition, eight more standard types of Picture Controls are also available.
Dream / Morning / Pop / Sunday / Somber / Dramatic / Silence / Bleached / Melancholic / Pure / Denim / Toy / Sepia / Blue / Red / Pink / Charcoal / Graphite / Binary / Carbon
Auto / Standard / Neutral / Vivid / Monochrome / Portrait / Landscape / Flat
Sharp focus on the subject’s eyes powerfully enhances the impression that your images will make. The Z fc’s Eye-Detection AF and Animal-Detection AF help you sharply capture the eyes of your family, friends and pets*, even when they’re moving. The camera intelligently recognizes eyes of multiple subjects in the frame. With those features now available in the wide-area AF (L) mode, it limits the focusing area within the frame and makes it easy for you to select which person/animal to focus on.
*Applies to dogs and cats.
The Z fc acquires your subject even when it abruptly pops into the frame, with the advanced AF system that uses a CMOS sensor featuring focal-plane phase-detection AF pixels. The 209-point*1 hybrid AF system covering the maximum of approx. 87% horizontally and 85% vertically in the frame allows precise focusing even on peripheral subjects. Also, AF-S and AF-C in addition to AF-A are now available in Auto mode, enabling you to focus more effectively depending on the subject’s movement. With the ability to shoot up to 11 frames per second*2, you’ll have more chances to capture the greatest shot of that important moment. If you want to keep track of a certain subject, Focus Tracking with Lock-On feature helps maintain focus on the specified target, letting you concentrate on the composition.
*1In DX format with single-point AF. *2When using a mechanical shutter, in continuous H (extended) release mode and NEF (12-bit RAW) + JPEG image quality.
5. Addressing all contemporary needs with technology
In addition to amazing stills, the Z fc lets you take 4K UHD/30p videos without cropping in the DX-based movie image area all on your own. Vlogging is easy thanks to the self-portrait mode, activated with the vari-angle screen turned to the front, together with Eye-Detection AF and full-time AF (AF-F) mode which tracks the subject during video recording. Also, the camera saves settings for still shooting and video recording separately, allowing you to instantly switch between the two with the photo/video selector for increased efficiency of the process. Slow-motion videos can be easily created using Full HD/120p, if you are to edit them in postproduction, or selecting in-camera 4x/5x slow-motion generation modes. Astonishing 4K time-lapse videos are also achievable all in-camera. If you wish to have more control over time-lapse videos, the camera offers interval-timer photography, which shoots a series of still pictures to be stitched together in postproduction.
Transferring images and videos has never been easier and more stable with SnapBridge, Nikon’s unique app that connects the camera and your smartphone. The Z fc is compatible with the latest Ver. 2.8 with improved features for more versatile use. By installing the SnapBridge app on your smart device*1, you can easily send stills (JPEG and RAW) and videos*2 via Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth®, as well as use the device as a remote control. Two different automatic connection modes between a camera and your smart device are now selectable — foreground and background. Foreground mode connects with the camera only when the app is launched, saving battery power. Background mode automatically transfers images even when a smart device is in a sleep mode. The latest camera firmware can also be obtained via the app*3 — much simpler than downloading to a memory card via computer. The new, user-friendly interface design makes the operation much smoother.
*1Compatible with iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch® or smart devices running on the Android™ operating system. Available free from Apple App Store® and Google Play™. Please check Nikon’s website for further information. *2Still images (RAW) and videos can only be transferred via Wi-Fi®. *3Prior pairing is needed. Supported for the Z 7II/Z 6II and subsequent models.
Connect the Z fc to your computer and upgrade your image quality for online communication. Nikon’s Webcam Utility software makes it extremely easy to establish connection between a Nikon camera and a computer. The compact body with its vari-angle monitor, and the combination of the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR, make the Z fc extra flexible — a perfect alternative to a webcam.
6. Explore different expressions — NIKKOR lenses
Using different lenses dramatically transforms your images. The growing range of NIKKOR Z lenses means expanding opportunities to try out different expressions in outstanding image quality. The Nikon Z mount, the largest mount on the market*, with its 55-mm opening, invites a huge volume of light to the sensor, resulting in amazing high resolution and beautiful bokeh in images. The Z fc can be paired with both FX- and DX-format lenses that will together stimulate your creativity even further.

Capture a friend together with the expansive view of the sky, or a chic interior with a stylish atmosphere. Weighing only approx. 135g (4.8 oz), this lens is an ideal partner for the compact Z fc. Thanks to its retractable-lens mechanism, it achieves a small and lightweight body that’s highly portable, without sacrificing optical performance. The lens covers everything from wide-angle landscapes to portraits, all with edge-to-edge sharpness. Its wide angle of view lets you capture the atmosphere of any scene more dynamically. The vibration reduction system offers an effect equivalent to a shutter speed 4.5 stops* faster — effectively compensating image blur caused by camera shake, which helps to achieve beautiful, sharp images even in dark situations, such as for night landscapes and indoors with minimum light. For the lens body, the same silver coating as the Z fc is employed.

Direct the eyes to a small subject like a flower by approaching it closely and juxtaposing it with soft background bokeh. Take a beautiful photo of a friend even in a dark interior. The NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 (SE) is a compact prime lens with a special design that is inspired by the manual NIKKOR lenses released at the time of the FM2. Together with its fast maximum aperture and minimum focus distance of 0.19m (0.63 ft), the lens produces natural bokeh in the background, realizing more creative and impressive images. When attached to the Z fc, the angle of view becomes that of a standard 42-mm equivalent lens, turning it into a more versatile lens that lets you capture scenes creatively by utilizing its fast f/2.8 aperture. This is also the first non-S-Line lens to adopt a multi-focusing system. It reduces aberration when shooting from up close, realizing natural rendering while delivering fast and accurate AF.
Get close to a distant subject and project it against a large background bokeh. Uniquely frame a tram along a street by compressed buildings. With its powerful 5x zoom, the NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR lets you capture your subject up-close in high resolution, even from a distance. The compression effect and large background bokeh that are unique to telephoto lenses make for impressive portraits and landscapes. The wide zoom range is perfect for documenting your travels. This lens and the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR together cover focal lengths from 16 mm to 250 mm without any gap. Its powerful vibration reduction (VR) with an effect equivalent to a shutter speed 5.0 stops* faster reduces image blur and enables you to shoot at the telephoto-end with confidence.

Reveal the incredibly intricate structure of the spines and texture of a cactus in dynamic, up-close images. This lens lets you depict your subject stunningly sharp against beautiful bokeh that is only possible with a micro lens and its fast aperture. The minimum focus distance of 0.16m (0.53 ft) enables you to approach the subject boldly, making depiction of even the tiniest detail possible. In addition, the standard focal length makes this a versatile prime lens for daily snaps and travel photos in addition to macro shots.
Render a friend’s radiant eyes and delicate skin texture with clear definition against natural, gradual bokeh even on a city street at night. Belonging to the NIKKOR Z S-Line, this lens offers superior rendering that redefines the perception of what an f/1.8 lens can achieve. Thanks to its high resolution realized by superior optical performance, it depicts your subject’s eyes and each strand of eyelash with clear definition. Also, its beautiful, soft creamy bokeh effectively emphasizes your subject, creating much more impressive portraits. As part of the NIKKOR Z f/1.8 series, designed with consideration for video recording, it lets you shoot both stills and videos all with this one lens.
Having access to NIKKOR Z lenses isn’t the only advantage of the Z fc being part of the Z mount family: you can also pair it with approx. 360 NIKKOR F lenses* via the FTZ Mount Adapter. From ultra-wide to super-telephoto, from micro to fisheye, this diverse lineup will let you freely explore many different kinds of expression for all your creative needs.
