TOKYO - Nikon Corporation launched the COOLPIX line's newest and most advanced model today, the P7700, a high-performance digital compact camera loaded with the company's best imaging technology and functions. Users will enjoy full-scale manual photography on par with digital-SLR cameras and can brush up on their techniques, as well as explore system expansion.

The successor to the P7100, the P7700 offers several key advances over its predecessor, including faster continuous shooting and enhanced image quality when shooting at high sensitivities. Highlights include a large 1/1.7-inch Backside illumination CMOS image sensor and a high-speed 7.1X optical zoom NIKKOR lens with an effective 12.2-million pixel count. In addition, the built-in Lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) Image stabilisation function increases the range of imaging possibilities with the camera performing equally well when snapping beautiful still images or recording crisp and clear full-HD movies in dark or dimly lit surroundings.

1. 7.1X Optical Zoom NIKKOR Lens With Maximum Apertures Of f/2.0-4.0

This bright and fast lens covers an extensive range of focal lengths from 28 mm to 200 mm (equivalents in 35 mm [135] format) and offers a maximum aperture of f/2.0 at the wide-angle position and f/4.0 at the telephoto position. It also makes full use of its built-in Lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) Image stabilisation function and the camera's noise reduction capabilities for superior image quality throughout the entire zoom range.

What's more, this high-performance lens is equipped with a 7-blade iris diaphragm that ensures enhanced image quality when shooting in dark or dimly lit surroundings and creates rounded blur characteristics for natural looking and beautiful images. In addition, macro photography as close as approximately two (2) cm is possible at the wide-angle position.

2. 1/1.7-inch Backside Illumination CMOS Image Sensor

With an effective 12.2-million pixel count, the high-performance sensor supports technologies that automatically overlay multiple images captured in rapid succession, resulting in less noise in photographs taken at high sensitivities. High-speed continuous shooting is possible at approximately 8 fps* for full-resolution 4000x3000 images, for up to six consecutive images.

3. Record Full-HD movies (In 1080p Format) With Stereo Sound

An all-new movie custom setting mode means shutter speed, aperture and ISO sensitivity can be tailored to achieve optimal filming results. The camera's fast NIKKOR lens and Backside illumination CMOS image sensor ensure an increase in picture quality and less noise when recording dark or dimly lit scenes.

4. Superior System Expansion (Accessories)

• The P7700 supports Advanced Wireless Lighting, a part of the Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS), which lets users control master and remote flash units to creatively play with light to emphasise subjects and snap more beautiful photos. In addition, the built-in flash is equipped with a commander mode function¹, enabling remote control over a single remote Speedlight (rather than having control through a clip-on Speedlight);

• Other excellent system expansion accessories, include the GPS Unit GP-1, which records position information with images;

• The Remote Cord MC-DC2, which makes releasing the shutter more convenient when the camera is mounted on a tripod;

• The new Lens Hood HN-CP17 which features an integrated filter adapter for attaching filters; and the 40.5mm screw-on filter 40.5 NC

5. 3-inch, Approx. 921k-dot, Vari-Angle TFT LCD Monitor

This bright, ultra high-resolution LCD monitor faithfully reproduces colours and has a wide viewing angle. The screen opens 0-180° to the left, and when opened, can be rotated 90° clockwise or 180° counter-clockwise; meaning users can keep their eye on the mark even when shooting from difficult angles.

6. Special Effects On The Go

A variety of special effects can be selected prior to shooting still images or filming movies, allowing users to fully explore their creativity.

A total of ten special effects are available, including Cross Process, which creates images with unusual hues by converting a positive colour image into a negative colour image or vice versa; Zoom Exposure, which uses zoom to create dynamic pictures radiating out from the centre; and Defocus During Exposure, which adjusts focus during exposure for a softening effect.

7. Designed For Comfort And Convenience

A lightweight, yet durable magnesium alloy body and a simple design with intuitive positioning of operational dials and buttons means ease of use for users of all levels.
